Mrs Bitey is quite sensitive to noise. She doesn’t like loud barking and takes clapping, cheering and fireworks as invitations to be loud and lairy- barking, growling, wagging, tail chasing and charging around.
However, she does like music and we had an interesting episode this morning en route to work. I’d been digging in the depths of my music library and put together an eclectic playlist of things to sing along to for the daily commute and forthcoming trek to the Shire for Christmas.
Mrs B usually wags her tail to any classical music, and is partial to a bit of Elvis or Marina and the Diamonds. I inevitably sing along and ‘Voice of an Angel’ I most certainly am not. I am often treated to a pained and pitying look from the passenger seat as I wail along in an enthusiatic variety of keys and flat notes.
Nothing could prepare me for this morning’s reaction. I cranked up the volume of an oldie but goodie- Freddie Mercury singing Great Pretender – and also sang along out of tune as usual. Mrs B went madder than a box of frogs; wagging, wiggling, squeaking and jumping around in great delight. She’d already been for her morning run, completed her ablutions and indeed was dozing on the front seat when the song came on so I don’t think it was coincidental. I replayed it a few times and the response was exactly the same. It seems clear to me that Mrs B is in love with the late, great Freddie Mercury.
Thank the lord it’s not Des O’Connor ….
